## Chapter 940

Regeneration.

Unlike Ron, Jin wasn’t entirely sure what authority he had gained by ascending to Genesis Knight.

“Regeneration… are you saying that’s the authority I’ve obtained?”

“Normally, one immediately realizes the new authority they gain upon reaching Genesis Knight. Your father, Cyron, was like that, and your sister Vahn was no exception. Dante’s grandfather, the former Emperor of Swords, must have experienced the same.”

“But unlike them, it doesn’t come to me so vividly. I know for sure that I’ve become immensely stronger than before and… I have a vague feeling that I can repair what’s broken or heal the wounded. However, I can’t define that feeling in simple terms, as if it were only the authority of regeneration.”

“It may be because the regeneration authority you obtained isn’t complete.”

Ayula gently took a golden energy that floated near Jin.

“Perhaps even a being with a divine status like mine couldn’t understand the hidden power in this energy. Others might simply think it’s a special power born from the fusion of aura and mana. But this mysterious power holds a potential that no one dares to imagine in its depth and magnitude. Even in its incomplete state…”

“How did you immediately deduce that my power is incomplete?”

“It’s my instinct. When facing that power, a memory emerged in my mind: the moment I was created. It was probably the day I was born from a fragment of the Sun God, Kinzelo.”

Ayula was sure.

The regeneration authority that Jin possesses is the same power that the Sun God wielded when he was complete. Although Ayula never directly saw the Sun God, she knew him instinctively.

“The Sun God…”

“The authority you’ve gained is undoubtedly related to him. But, since it has been fragmented into many pieces, it can never be complete.”

“So, does Jin need to find and absorb fragments of the Sun God to complete his authority?”

Ayula tilted her head at Hedo’s question.

“Jin didn’t obtain his authority by absorbing fragments of the Sun God in the first place. Perhaps it manifested from the convergence of Jin’s will and the Sun God’s will at the moment he ascended to Genesis Knight. So, I’m not sure that absorbing the fragments of the Sun God is the key. Maybe it will work, but…”

Ayula released the golden energy and paused for a moment.

“Can someone who possesses that kind of regeneration authority even be called a human? The complete power of the Sun God can, with mere will, reverse all destruction and death. It’s something terrible for a single person to wield.”

Hedo and Dante nodded.

Jin’s goal was to live as a human, not become a god who governs life and death. He never wanted to be a god, and that hadn’t changed.

“But still, I said that this power could alleviate some of Jin’s suffering. Now I’ll show you why.”

Rip!

Suddenly, Ayula tore off one of her right wings with her hand. Everyone shuddered and was shocked by the sound of flesh tearing and bones crunching.

“Ah, Lady Ayula!”

“Don’t worry; it doesn’t hurt that much. Well, maybe it’s difficult to tear them all off by myself. Help me. Don’t cut them with a sword; that also constitutes a form of atonement for me.”

Ayula continued to tear off her wings, and Jin and the others had no choice but to follow her instructions.

Ayula’s entire body was soaked in red blood as she tore off her twenty wings. However, not a single drop of blood stained the wings laid before them.

“These wings originally belong to another god, not me.”

“Another god?”

“The god of hope, Numerus. They are his.”

“If any god causes excessive chaos in the human world, Ayula threatens him under the pretext of a meeting. I heard that she even annihilated one before I was born. Was it the god of blessing?”

“Really?”

“There was a time when rumors circulated among the dragons that Ayula might have been responsible for the disappearance of Numerus, the god of hope. Anyway, she’s quite radical.”

Jin recalled his conversation with Murakan during the incident in the Holy Kingdom in the past.

“It’s known among humans that only eight drops of tears and a hundred drops of Numerus’ blood remained after I annihilated him. But that’s only half the truth. I kept Numerus’ wings before annihilating him. They may look like wings, but they are actually Numerus’ materialized will.”

Jin and his companions looked alternately at the wings lying on the ground and at Ayula.

“You could say that Numerus and I were siblings. We were born at the same time and from the same fragment… I became the god of peace, and he became the god of hope. We had a good relationship. But why did I choose to eliminate him?”

“…Maybe Numerus got too involved with mortals.”

“That’s correct. He loved humans too much. For that reason, he used his abilities to resurrect those he especially loved. Those who should have ascended to the cycle of reincarnation or fallen into hell ended up continuing their lives. There are often stories and legends about resurrection in human folklore. I’m sure you’ve heard them. The legends from the period before the founding of Vankela are all true.”

Numerus had provoked Ayula’s wrath shortly before the founding of Vankela. Until then, Ayula had tolerated Numerus’ deviations for quite some time.

“I decided to kill him when he performed his first large-scale resurrection. Have you heard of the great resurrection of the Arlehin Kingdom?”

Jin and his companions nodded. It was, in fact, a well-known legend, in which the Arlehin Kingdom was suddenly destroyed by a flood, and the next day, everyone in the kingdom was miraculously resurrected. It was a legend that most mortals knew.

“After that event, I decided I couldn’t let Numerus run loose any longer. So, I went to find him, and he knew I would come. He begged me to stop him. He was going crazy because of resurrecting so many people.”

In that way, Ayula destroyed her brother, the god Numerus.

In the process, eight drops of tears and a hundred drops of blood scattered across different places in the mortal realm as his body crumbled.

“But I didn’t believe that his love for humans was entirely wrong. It was simply that his methods were wrong… So, I left behind his will in the hope that his authority might be needed someday. Fortunately, that premonition has come true.”

Ayula looked down at the wings.

“These wings represent Numerus’ will, so they are inert on their own. But, combined with the authority you’ve gained, they can temporarily postpone all the deaths that occurred today in the Holy Kingdom.”

“Postpone death…”

“It means that the souls of my deceased children, who were killed by the demons today, will be able to continue to exist in the Holy Kingdom in spirit form. They will remain as transparent souls until you die, retaining all their memories and appearances from when they were alive. It’s not a complete resurrection, but it’s not a definitive death either.”

Similar to how Teben and Zen, in Maliet Hister’s succession temple, managed to postpone the death of the Holy Kingdom’s inhabitants through Numerus’ will and Jin’s power.

“…It seems you’re making a decision similar to the one Numerus made in the past, Lady Ayula.”

“That’s right. However, I’m not doing this to find happiness for myself. I made this decision for your sake. Besides, it’s because you were the one who obtained the regeneration authority, not someone else.”

Jin was stunned by those words and looked at Ayula.

Somehow, he felt that Ayula had noticed his regression, and Ayula nodded as if confirming that he was right.

Jin had already confessed his regression to Paellito, but Ayula was also listening.

“The deaths that cross your path are not your responsibility. You could say it’s the responsibility of the being who made you that way. There must be a reason why you gained the regeneration authority immediately upon becoming a Genesis Knight. And I believe you gained this power so that you wouldn’t be overwhelmed by so many deaths when you reach the end of that path.”

Hedo and Dante didn’t fully understand what they were talking about, but they didn’t ask any questions.

“Numerus’ will only acts to alleviate the sadness you’ve experienced today in the Holy Kingdom. Even without it, you could have postponed the deaths of my deceased children. However, you would have only managed to postpone them in the form of a golden light, without their appearance or memories from when they were alive. Now, touch one of the wings in front of you.”

Jin touched one of the wings and felt that, in the vicinity, the group of souls of deceased subjects was awakening in spirit form.

Dante and Hedo were speechless at the sight, and the resurrected subjects who had just awakened were just as amazed.

[“I-I-incredible! Lady Ayula!”]

[“Are we not dead? Why are our bodies so transparent…?”]

Subjects from all over the Holy Kingdom were constantly awakening. If Numerus’ will hadn’t been present, they would have emerged in the form of a circular golden light, unable to express themselves.

Jin was amazed and silently pondered what Ayula had just told him: so that you wouldn’t be overwhelmed by so much death when you reach the end of the path.

“Someday, perhaps you can bring them back to real life. Those who were needlessly murdered by the overwhelming power of those who opposed you… A real life, not a distorted resurrection like the one Numerus did in the past.”

The life they should have enjoyed, the lives that were lost because of your regression.

Ayula whispered to Jin, and Dante and Hedo, busy observing the newly awakened souls, couldn’t hear what she said.

“So, don’t let guilt crush you, Jin. You must never fall under its weight. For them, for those who died this way before and for those who will die this way in the future, you must not fall.”

Jin nodded in agreement.

Hope was beginning to bloom in his heart. He carried the heavy weight of guilt as a Regressor, but now a light of hope shone in him that someday he could leave it behind completely.

“Now, this was the last thing I had to do. Jin, awaken all my children who fell today in the Holy Kingdom. Dante and Hedo, please go and convey this situation to them. I need to explain the situation to my awakened children.”

Dante and Hedo nodded and left to explain the situation to the newly awakened souls.
